Readiness Assessment for Industry Decarbonization Technologies project, initiated in 2024 by the Institute for Essential Services Reform (IESR), aimed to evaluate the adoption potential of decarbonization technologies in industries with high carbon emissions. These industries, which include cement, textile, pulp and paper, iron and steel, and ammonia production, are significant contributors to greenhouse gas emissions. The project sought to identify suitable technologies that could help reduce their carbon footprints and facilitate a transition toward more sustainable practices.
PT Geni Buana Nusantara was responsible for mapping out the most effective decarbonization technologies for each of these sectors and assessing their technology readiness levels (TRL). This assessment provided a clear understanding of how close these technologies are to commercial deployment. In addition, the project explored the opportunities for electrification, particularly in process heating, where replacing fossil fuels with cleaner energy sources could greatly reduce emissions. The findings from this project offered key insights into the challenges and opportunities facing these industries as they move toward decarbonization, providing a foundation for future policy and investment decisions.
